At Clear Point Consultants, we will partner with you to help make your contract hire a success. As with any business partnership, success depends on setting clear and agreed upon expectations, monitoring progress, and communicating regularly, as outlined in our Best Practices below.
1. A detailed project description.
The more clearly you are able to delineate the project, the easier it will be to measure the contractor’s performance against your needs and expectations. A vague project description makes managing the contractor more difficult.
2. Clear milestones & deliverables.
Be sure to spell out all required milestones and deliverables in your Clear Point Task Specification document.
An example of a clear milestone & deliverable:
• Contractor will write a technical brief and a 20-page whitepaper by May 15th.
An example of an unclear milestone & deliverable:
• Contractor will perform technical writing tasks per direction of manager.
3. Introduction to key contacts.
Once deliverables and milestones are communicated, make sure to introduce the contractor to the key contacts at your company. Key contacts are the people who are critical to the contractor getting their job done. Set up a meeting or simply bring the contractor around to each person’s office for a quick introduction.
4. Weekly check-ins and status reports.
Clear Point highly encourages managers to check the work of the contractor on a weekly basis at first and then by milestones, once comfortable with the contractor’s work. Likewise, Clear Point encourages our contractors to submit a brief written status report to their manager at the end of each week.
5. Communication is key to a successful relationship.
Clearly communicating project details, tasks, and dates is critical to the success of the contractor at your company. Likewise, communicating needs and expectations to Clear Point is also important. We’re just a phone call away and we encourage you to provide us with frequent feedback.
6. What if it’s not working out?
If you’ve made the decision that the contractor is not working out, call your Clear Point account manager immediately. If the contract cannot be saved, your account manager will work with you to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and find a suitable replacement.
